Bronx/Westchester – George Latimer, Democratic candidate for New York’s 16th Congressional District, today announced that as Congressman, he will re-open the office’s Bronx constituent services office, which the current Congressmember shut down, and will directly engage with all municipal leaders from day one if elected.
“Serving the residents of the 16th Congressional District means being in every community, hearing every voice, and talking to every leader to hear their perspectives on what the residents of their communities need,” said Latimer. “That means building on my strong relationships with other leaders who understand the needs of their communities. By engaging directly and regularly with municipal
leaders and having a place where residents can walk into, we can work together to develop practical solutions that prioritize the well-being of our constituents over political posturing.”
The first part of Latimer’s expanded community engagement plan will be re-opening a constituent services office in the Bronx, which the incumbent closed after taking office.
In addition, Latimer plans to meet in person with every municipal government – Westchester villages, towns and city councils, along with Bronx Community Boards, Councilmembers, Borough officials and state legislators – in the 16th Congressional District within the first 90 days of taking office. This initiative, Congress in Your Corner, is a hands-on approach designed to establish open lines of communication,
foster cooperation, and gain a comprehensive understanding of the unique challenges and opportunities each community faces.
Latimer will also host a quarterly conference call,The Congressional Call with all local municipal leaders throughout his term, ensuring continuous dialogue and collaboration. This proactive communication effort will include all key elected officials within the district, updating them on the status of Federal legislation and grants programs to create a unified front in addressing the pressing issues affecting the
district.
This approach aligns with Latimer’s track record as Westchester County Executive, where he has championed inclusive governance and collaboration to address the diverse needs of the County. Latimer’s efforts have been recognized as among the top levels of innovation among all the counties across New York State.
